Monitoring launch vibrations on Merritt Island

Rocket operations generate ground vibrations and pressure waves in the air. On Merritt Island, USF is helping measure both to support NASA’s assessment of potential effects on archaeological sites near Kennedy Space Center.

The project focuses on SpaceX Starship operations at Launch Complex 39A. NASA Marshall Space Flight Center leads the work with New Mexico Tech and USF. Our group helps deploy and maintain field instruments and prepares the recordings for analysis.
